Kieran Tierney should have tried to leave Celtic this summer

Celtic last season completed another treble-winning campaign, much to the delight of Brendan Rodgers. Still, despite their success, some players must be left wondering what its the next step in their careers.

The question is, what more can be achieved at Celtic for many of the squad? The side are the dominant force in Scottish football by a huge distance, even if the others really are trying their best to make up the ground at the top of the SPFL.

In Europe, Celtic unceremoniously crashed out of both the Champions League and Europa League. Winning the treble seems like something of a glass ceiling for the Hoops, with European teams just having too much for them.

After winning two trebles with Celtic, young left-back Kieran Tierney should be looking to the next step in his career. Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are reportedly both interested in signing the player. The player is already an established senior Scottish international and one of the most promising British prospects there is.

The English Premier League is surely the next step for Tierney. The 21-year-old has already proved himself the best left-back in Scottish football, and has won everything domestically there is to win. To take his game to the next level, the Douglas-Born player needs to be challenging himself every week at a higher level.

Tierney has won the Scotland PFA Young Player of the Year award three years in a row. There is little doubt he could make the step up to playing in the English top flight.

At a top-level club such as Tottenham Hotspur, aged just 21-years-old, he could become one of the stars of the game. His surging runs forward, defensive capabilities and game intelligence have made him very much stand out.

Tierney is worth £11m according to Transfermarkt.

If he doesn’t take the opportunity to move on from Celtic Park, this will likely be a decision the youngster regrets as it could stunt his development and stop him developing into the true star talent he can become.
