Celtic supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team edge closer towards the Scottish Premiership title after beating nearest challengers Rangers 3-2 on Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers’ men went into the Old Firm derby just six points clear of the Gers at the summit of the division, and very much facing the prospect of a title challenge were Graeme Murty’s side to win at Ibrox. And although the Light Blues twice went ahead through Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias, it was the Bhoys who had the final say as goals from Tom Rogic, Moussa Dembele, and Odsonne Edouard secured a vital three points for Rodgers’ side, thus moving them nine points clear at the top and still with a game in hand over their bitter rivals.
Consequently, there have been many jubilant Celtic fans in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom are hoping their side can take another step closer to defending their crown when they visit Motherwell on Sunday.
In the meantime though, several of our resident Bhoys supporters are already looking ahead to the summer and what business their side may seek to do, in a bid to be even better next season and perhaps more competitive on the European stage.
And many of those Celtic fans lining up at the bar are calling for the club to make Edouard’s loan move permanent in the summer, as doing so would be their best deal in many a year.
Ultimately, the 20-year-old has been in wonderful form for the Bhoys this term, netting eight goals and laying on three assists to help Rodgers’ side all but defend their league title, as well as secure the Scottish League Cup and reach the last four of the Scottish Cup.
And he will certainly have delighted the Celtic faithful even more by scoring a fabulous winner to see off Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday, and at the tender age of 19, his talent as of now suggests that he has got a huge future in the game.
And Celtic will surely want him to fulfil that potential at Parkhead.
The forward hasn’t often been a regular starter under Rodgers but he has frequently made a difference when on the field, to the point that he is slowly but surely becoming a more integral part of the squad at Celtic Park.
And if the Bhoys are planning to move to the next level under the former Liverpool chief, mainly by sustaining a challenge in Europe, then they will simply need to acquire talented players like Edouard.
Ultimately, the France youth international has already proven a lot in his short time at Celtic that he could be a huge player for them in the future, and with Bhoys having reportedly agreed a £7 million fee with Paris Saint-Germain to secure his services permanently, it could even turn out to be a great investment should Edouard go on to fulfil his undoubted potential – his stock only looks set to rise.
As such, landing the £1.35 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) is exactly the sort of deal they must be looking to strike this summer, and doing so would represent their best deal in many a year.
