Celtic have been linked with a move for Liverpool youngster – Pedro Chirivella.
The Hoops are reportedly ready to launch a £3.5m bid for the Liverpool midfield this summer. According to Goal, Celtic have emerged as the favourites to sign the 21-year-old who made his Liverpool debut under Brendan Rodgers. Chirivella had been expected to sign for Rosenborg but couldn’t agree on personal terms.
Valued at £675k by Transfermarkt, after failing to make the grade at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp is finally ready to let the youngster leave. Chirivella indicated he wanted to stay in England or Spain, but a move to Scotland to reunite with Rodgers could be a tempting proposition. The Northern Irishman has a reputation for bringing the best out of young players and a move to Celtic Park could be perfect for Chirivella to get his career back on track.
The midfielder spent last season on loan in the Eredivisie with Willem II. He was a first-team regular, making 31 appearances for the Dutch side, registering three assists. Chirivella could add some bite to the Celtic midfielder, averaging 2.2 tackles and 1.9 interceptions per game last season (WhoScored).
For just £3.5m, Celtic would be picking up a great deal. However, there are still glaring issues that Rodgers need to solve before the window slams shut. A new defender should be a priority, and Chirivella should only be signed if a defender is also on their way to Parkhead.
