As you can imagine, considering the impact Brendan Rodgers has had at Celtic, our green and white-clad punters in the Transfer Tavern are delighted about life right now.
The former Liverpool coach has helped bring the glamour back to Glasgow since his arrival last summer and, while progression in the Champions League remains the Holy Grail, the Bhoys in our bar cannot believe just how good the team looks right now.
Naturally, considering his near-perfect record against Rangers too, our resident Celtic fans wouldn’t swap the 44-year-old for anybody in the world right now, a view that seems to be echoed by chief executive, Peter Lawwell.
Speaking at the club’s AGM (with quotes sourced by the Scottish Sun), he was full of praise for Rodgers and claimed that NO other coach in world football would tempt him to get rid of the former Liverpool coach, who certainly has rebuilt his reputation since leaving the Premier League.
”He’s an outstanding manager, an outstanding coach. He is a Celtic man and he carries those Celtic values and standards”, he said.
“At this moment, I don’t think there’s anyone else I’d rather have – in WORLD football – as the manager of Celtic.”
Lawwell may have to think of potential replacements for Rodgers soon. While that may sound disrespectful, it’s hard to imagine big Premier League sides not taking an interest in him and, considering their financial muscle, Celtic may not be able to keep him.
