Potential boost for Celtic in Champions League amid Rodgers’ dwindling hopes

While their progression into the League Cup final was a boost for the Celtic fans here in the Transfer Tavern, a few of our punters clad in green and white here are still disappointed with the manner of their Champions League display.

Indeed, the Bhoys in our bar were sad to watch their side thumped by Bayern Munich in the Champions League last week, all but ending their hopes of progressing into the next round of Europe’s elite competition. With that in mind, a report from Sky Sports Germany (via the Scottish Sun) has at least given the Hoops who prop up our ahead of the return tie at Parkhead.

While it may not swing the tie in Celtic’s favour, Brendan Rodgers’ men may not come up against Thomas Muller, who scored against them in Bavaria last week. The World Cup winner looked to have picked up a problem during Bayern’s win over Hamburg over the course of the weekend, thought to be around his thigh.

Though the 28-year-old struggled under Carlo Ancelotti, he’s so far enjoyed life under the returning Jupp Heynckes, so it’s at least some good news for the Celtic fans.

“First things first is a scan”, said Heynckes.

“Thomas said that it’s cramp, or rather a muscle hardening.

“I hope that’s all it is.”

Landlord’s Verdict:

It’s at least a potential boost for Rodgers’ men. Though Bayern have a vast array of attacking talent at their disposal, at least losing Muller would rid them of one World Cup winner..
