Celtic fans here in the Tavern are worried about their strength in depth, as an injury crisis continues to take its toll on the Hoops.
Brendan Rodgers suffered a transfer window crisis as deadline day approached, with injuries causing for the Scot to attempt to force a desperation buy with time running out. Indeed, a goalkeeping injury caused for the Hoops to immediately reconsider their ‘keeper options, as the signing of former Dundee United player Jack Hendry was soon paired with the desperation deal for Scott Bain. However, this doesn’t seem to have satisfied manager Brendan Rodgers, as according to reports from Sky Sports, Celtic will review their goalkeeping options once again in the summer months after Bain’s loan deal expires.
The Hoops’ goalkeeping saga all started when former Sunderland man Craig Gordon suffered a knee injury that was set to sideline him for 12 weeks. Indeed, a setback that’s cause for Celtic’s impressive season to soon be based around caution in the goalkeeping department, as the Hoops hope another injury doesn’t spell a ‘keeper crisis at Celtic Park.
Indeed, it’s clear to see that the addition of Scott Bain was nothing more than a back-up solution for Rodgers, as his plans have soon turned to calling for a summer review. Although, after failing to push through a deadline day deal for Oxford United ‘keeper Simon Eastwood, perhaps he’s a target they’re eyeing up come May time.
However, with them in a promising position to secure a seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title, it shouldn’t call for desperate times in Glasgow with fate in their own hands.
There’s no doubt that goalkeeping options should become the priority in the summer, with Craig Gordon’s injury and Dorus De Vries ageing. And, with a desperation buy providing them with the services of Scott Bain for the remainder of the season, seeing him return to his parent club will see the Hoops fall even shorter in that department. So, for a successful and ambitious manager at the helm in Glasgow, Celtic fans can come to expect a quality signing between the stick in the summer months.
