Celtic fans desperately want Brendan Rodgers to sign a new centre-back in the summer transfer window.
After sealing their seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title, Rodgers can turn his attention to the transfer market and bolster his Celtic squad. The Hoops could be participating in four competitions next season. Therefore, new signings are a must. A permanent deal for Odsonne Eduoard remains their only transfer of the window.
It’s no secret that the former Liverpool boss is searching for a new centre-back this summer. Both Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic failed to impress last season, and the Northern Irishman wants a new defender to sure up their back line. The perfect signing could be West Ham wonderkid – Reece Oxford.
Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the 19-year-old was tipped to become the next Rio Ferdinand after emerging through West Ham’s youth academy. Last season, he was loaned to the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach but made just seven appearances, totalling just 463 minutes of football. If he is to fulfil his potential, Oxford needs regular game time.
Moving to the SPFL could be just what the youngster requires. Celtic could offer the chance to play week in, week out as well as the opportunity to play in the Champions League. Rodgers has a reputation for developing youngsters and could get the best out of the centre-back.
Landing Oxford could prove to be a masterstroke for the Hoops.
