Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking towards an exciting summer as their club inches towards yet another Scottish title.
The Bhoys could win the top flight crown without kicking a ball tonight if Aberdeen lose to Dundee, amid a campaign which has seen Brendan Rodgers’ side go undefeated domestically.
Accordingly, Celtic’s strategy this summer will almost certainly be to make the squad more competitive at Champions League level, having failed to escape the Group Stages this term despite their sustained domestic dominance.
That should keep them above Rangers in terms of quality. The Old Firm rivals haven’t enjoyed the best of returns to top tier football but Celtic would be right to expect a more serious challenge from the Ibrox outfit next season.
And although the next transfer window is still a good few months away, Rodgers has revealed what kind of player will be on his agenda this summer – predominantly, a creative midfielder.
As quoted by The Daily Record, he said; “We’re covered well in a lot of positions, but I’ve always wanted another midfielder. It has to be someone of real quality, someone who can make a difference.
“I believe that we need a midfield player who can make a pass and make a difference in the Champions League.”
The Northern Irishman went on to add that Celtic may also need to find a new winger, should Patrick Roberts return to Manchester City or move on elsewhere once his loan deal at Celtic Park expires at the end of the season, and potentially another centre-half.
He said; “Whether Patrick Roberts comes back from Manchester City remains to be seen so I believe that I’ll need another winger, with real pace and power and I’ll maybe be looking at one other position in centre half.”
