Our Celtic fans here in the Transfer Tavern want to see some extra signings this season but, according to The Scottish Sun, they’re looking to wrap a deal up for someone already on their books.
The Bhoys are waltzing off into the distance this season in the Scottish top flight and are looking more than good to win the league once again, this time under Brendan Rodgers.
They’ll be looking for a better Champions League campaign next season, though, and so the planning for that needs to be starting now.
Indeed, that appears to be exactly what is happening with manager Rodgers revealing talks are underway about keeping Patrick Roberts at the club from Manchester City.
Roberts has impressed out-wide for Celtic since joining on loan from the Citizens and so would certainly be more than welcome at the club if a permanent deal could be agreed between the two parties.
Certainly, that’s what former Liverpool boss Rodgers wants who said:
“I want to work with talented players but it’s about what City see as the next stage of Patrick’s development.
“I have only been in for the last six months of his time here but I think it has been a fruitful period.
“He seems to be really enjoying his time here and has grown really close with the squad. There will be dialogue between now and the summer in terms of where he is at.
“Patrick is very important for us, whether he starts or comes off the bench. His talent is there for all to see.”
Roberts is, of course, a Manchester City player at the moment but with the Citizens struggling in the Premier League it could even transpire that only Celtic can offer him Champions League football next season.
