Rodgers eyeing new Championship signing after Celtic departure

Yesterday, the Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern finally bid farewell to defensive stalwart Efe Ambrose, who joined Neil Lennon’s Hibernian on a permanent basis.

While the Nigerian had seen his stock drop in recent seasons and become totally left behind amid Brendan Rodgers’ rampant Parkhead rebuild, he’s been a popular figure amongst the Bhoys in the bar over the years.

So, with that in mind, the Hoops are going to need to find a replacement for the 28-year-old. Which is exactly why reports from the Irish Independent have proved so interesting.

According to their report, the Scottish champions are keen on signing Burton Albion defender Ryan Delaney, following his loan stint with Irish side Wexford.

The League of Ireland winners are understood to be keen on landing the Brewers ace on a permanent deal, though Celtic are believed to be amongst a number of clubs reportedly interested.

While the idea of bringing in a Burton Albion youngster may not instantly seem like the most ambitious of signings, many of the green and white clad drinkers in the bar are on board.

Considering Brendan Rodgers’ track record when working with young players, developing a young talent as the first-team continue to impress is an interesting idea indeed.
