Speaking to Jim White on Talksport, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has said that it is of his opinion that Moussa Dembele will not leave in January – delighting the Bhoys here in the Transfer Tavern.
Indeed, our local Celtic punters have been tearing their hair out in recent weeks as with every good performance their young French striker puts in they become more aware that he could be playing at a higher level.
Whilst the Hoops have been in the Champions League the Scottish Premiership is proving far too easy for the club and with players like Dembele waltzing through it, that worry is always going to manifest itself.
Fortunately, though, for our fans of the Scottish champions, it appears the talented former Fulham forward will be around until the end of the season at least.
That’s because, when asked about a potential January move, Rodgers said:
“No, I don’t think it will be January.
“At Celtic, you know how it is. We know how it is. If we get a really talented player there’s probably a cycle of a couple of years with them.
“You look at [Victor] Wanyama, Virgil van Dijk, Ki [Sung-yueng] – they come up here and it’s a great platform for them to demonstrate their qualities but then the likelihood is they get a better offer, financially, and they move down south.
“With Moussa, I think that was always going to be the case.
“But the difference now with Celtic is that Moussa doesn’t need to go to, with all due respect, a bottom-end Premier League team, because he’s playing for a big club in front of 60,000 fans a week.”
The Bhoys have been flying this season and look good for yet another league crown with Dembele leading the charge with his goals.
A hat-trick against Rangers earlier this season really highlighted his talent whilst a brace against Manchester City in the Champions League proved he’s got the ability for the highest levels of the game, something our landlord agrees with.
