Rodgers speaks frankly over clinical Celtic forward

After watching their side keep a hold of Craig Gordon AND Moussa Dembele, the Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern couldn’t be much happier right now at the current state of play in Paradise.

Having broken the Lisbon Lions’ record of unbeaten games consecutively, the Bhoys in the bar believe Brendan Rodgers is the greatest thing to arrive in Glasgow for years, with the whole camp looking happy families right now. Still, reports from the Scottish Sun have rocked the boat somewhat.

Rodgers has moved to warn forward Leigh Griffiths over his lifestyle, with the Scotland international currently out of action with a calf strain. Despite scoring 40 goals for the Hoops last term, the former Hibernian man has largely played second fiddle to the aforementioned Dembele this season.

However, as popular a player the 26-year-old is, Rodgers has hinted he needs to focus more on developing his professionalism if he is to further succeed. For the most part, our resident Celtic fans agree, with Griffiths clearly boasting the talent to score goals at a reasonably high level.

“Every aspect of being a professional. Talent is not enough. Leigh is a really good kid, a good boy, and I want to help him”, Rodgers replied when asked what he needs to work on.

“If he can focus on outside of the football field he can be a consistent player for a number of years at the top level.

“If not, it might prove to be very difficult for him. That’s from the lifestyle of a footballer.

“You have to live it right. Unfortunately for him, he’s in this cycle of breaking down.

“It’s not just about the games. You have to train well, work well.

“Leigh’s not a problem. He’s a very spirited young man, which I love. He’s got personality.

“But hopefully he’ll have seen progression in lots of players here through this way of working.”
