Celtic supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last couple of days after seeing their side batter Rangers 5-0 on Sunday to clinch a seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title.
Brendan Rodgers’ men went into the Old Firm derby at Parkhead on Sunday knowing that victory over their bitter rivals would secure another league title, and they produced an emphatic display to once again underline their status as the best team in Scotland. A brace from Odsonne Edouard alongside goals from James Forrest, Tom Rogic, and Callum McGregor secured a comprehensive success for the Bhoys, in turn moving them ten points clear of second place Aberdeen with just nine games to play.
Consequently, there have been many buoyant and delighted Celtic fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping their side can continue their fine form between now and the end of the season, and thus lift the Scottish Cup for back-to-back domestic trebles.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Bhoys supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking Rogic with a move to Premier League side Southampton.
As such, with the Australia international out of contract at the end of next season (as per Transfermarkt), securing an agreement with the 25-year-old is one of the biggest deals Celtic can strike this summer.
Ultimately, the attacker has been in wonderful form for Rodgers’ side this season, having scored eight goals and laid on eight assists in 37 appearances in all competitions, including five goals and four assists in their run to the Scottish Premiership title.
And those numbers are particularly impressive given that Rogic missed almost two months with a knee problem between December and February, yet he has since hit the ground running again to underline his importance to Rodgers and indeed this Celtic team.
And if the Bhoys are serious about continuing their domination of Scottish football, and indeed starting to make inroads in European competition, they simply cannot be in the business of getting rid of their best and most influential players – Rogic is definitely one of those.
Be it scoring in the big games against Rangers, or bagging twice in their Champions League qualification campaign, Rogic is without doubt a key part of Rodgers’ plans at Parkhead – they would be significantly weakened by his departure.
Thus, striking an agreement with the £2.25m-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) regarding a new contract is undoubtedly one of the biggest deals the Bhoys can do this summer.
