Celtic maintained their unbeaten start to the Scottish Premiership campaign with a 1-0 win over Hamilton at the weekend.
A goal from Dedryck Boyata was enough to seal three points for Brendan Rodgers’ side and return to winning ways. The Hoops were beaten by Hearts on the opening day of the season and were knocked out of the Champions League by AEK Athens. They need a result against FK Sudava at Celtic Park to progress to the group stages of the Europa League.
There is still time for Rodgers to strengthen his squad to get his side back on the right track. Defending their title will be harder than ever with Hearts making a perfect start to the campaign and Rangers looking good under Steven Gerrard’s leadership. The Northern Irishman should return to his former club Liverpool for his next signing.
That man could be Belgian goalkeeper – Simon Mignolet. Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the 30-year-old slipped down the pecking order after some inconsistent performances at Anfield. He was replaced by Loris Karius who also fell out of favour which prompted Jurgen Klopp to spend £67m on Alisson Becker. Karius later departed for Besiktas on loan and Mignolet reportedly wants to follow him through the exit door.
Rodgers was the man who bought the goalkeeper from Sunderland back in 2013 and hailed him as ‘one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League’. With Craig Gordon approaching the end of his career, the Belgium international would be the perfect replacement. Mignolet remains a top shot-stopper and would return to his best without the pressures of life on Merseyside.
If Celtic can convince the Reds to sell, it would be an astute piece of business.
