Upon returning from Germany after their Champions League exploits, the Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern have been in a joyous mood as their dreams of a European run remain alight.
Brendan Rodgers’ arrival in Glasgow has heralded a new dawn for the SPFL champions, who look a completely different outfit to the team that seemed to stagnate so much under Ronny Deila.
So, reports from the Scottish Sun suggesting Emilio Izaguirre wanted to leave over the summer, only to be convinced otherwise, have gone down a storm.
After six years in green and white, the Honduran reportedly wanted to call an end to his Bhoys career as Scotland international Kieran Tierney emerged as a more dynamic option.
However, the 30-year-old has revealed Rodgers convinced him to stay as back-up to the aforementioned talented teen, a decision that looks to have paid off.
‘KT’ recently suffered a long-term injury and Izaguirre looks set to reclaim his place as first-choice left-back for the rest of the campaign.
“There was a time when I thought I would be leaving Celtic and Scotland”, he told the Scottish Sun.
“Last summer, I tried to move to another club to play more football.
“But the manager told me he needed to keep me in case anything happened to young KT.
“Now I am playing again in the Champions League, and I am just focusing on helping Celtic succeed.”
