Celtic supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team all but seal the Scottish Premiership title after beating nearest rivals Rangers 3-2 in the Old Firm derby on Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers’ men went into their trip to Ibrox just six points clear of the Gers at the top of the table, and with the knowledge that anything less than three points would keep Graeme Murty’s side just about in title contention. Yet the Bhoys all but ended any Rangers’ hopes as Odsonne Edouard’s second half strike secured the victory for Rodgers’ side, who twice came from behind in the first half through Tom Rogic and Moussa Dembele as goals from Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias twice gave the Light Blues the advantage.
As such, there have been many buoyant Celtic fans in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Scottish Sun, which suggests that their club face a summer tussle in their quest to land goalkeeper Scott Bain on a permanent deal.
The 26-year-old only made the move to Parkhead at the rear end of the January transfer window after less than a month at fellow top-flight side Hibernian, what with the Bhoys in need of further goalkeeping reinforcements following the injury to Craig Gordon.
And the Scottish shot-stopper was thrown in at the deep end on Sunday as he made his debut for the club in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox, only to seriously impress and play a key part in helping Rodgers’ side clinch all three points.
And it appears that his efforts against Rangers could well earn him a longer stay at Celtic Park, as reports suggest that the Scottish champions-elect are considering a permanent move for the goalkeeper in the summer, although Hearts and Hibernian are also thought to be interested.
Thus, it very much remains to be seen what the future holds for Bain come the summer.
Landlord’s verdict: Scott Bain hadn’t even made his debut for Celtic prior to Sunday’s Old Firm derby at Ibrox, only for the 26-year-old to produce an impressive performance to help Brendan Rodgers’ side to a 3-2 win over Rangers.
And his fine efforts on Sunday may well play a part in earning him a permanent move to Parkhead, as reports suggest that the Bhoys are considering a permanent move for the goalkeeper in the summer at the expiration of his contract at Dundee.
However, Hearts and Hibernian are also thought to be interested in the shot-stopper, thus meaning that Celtic’s quest to lure Bain to the club permanently may not be as straightforward as they may have hoped.
