Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking ahead to the Scottish Cup final after beating Old Firm rivals Rangers in the previous round, whilst they will also be looking forward to the summer transfer market.
Yet, according to The Scotsman, the Scottish Premiership champions-elect are looking closer to home and will be hoping to tie down Leigh Griffiths to a new contract.
The Scotland international has been a key member of Brendan Rodgers’ side, having scored 13 goals and laid on eight assists for the Bhoys in all competitions this season, and the manager is keen to keep him at Celtic Park for as long as possible.
The former Liverpool boss told The Scotsman: ‘I’d love to have him here and tie him down. Talks are ongoing with his representatives and he’s a player we want to keep.’
The striker still has three years left on his current deal, and despite suffering a few injuries during the Scottish Premiership campaign which has restricted him to just 22 league appearances, he has had a big influence on this Celtic team, and reportedly holds hopes of playing for the club long enough to receive a testimonial.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Celtic fans in the Tavern will be delighted with the news that the club are already looking to keep £2.7 million-rated Griffiths (as per Transfermarkt) at Parkhead for as long as possible, as they have become used to the goals he has scored to help them with the possibility of a back-to-back domestic treble.
