This £10.8m-rated Liverpool outcast should kick-start his career by moving to Celtic

Celtic supporters have been a bit quiet in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team only muster a 0-0 draw with ten-man Motherwell on Sunday, although the result did move them ten points clear at the summit of the Scottish Premiership.

Brendan Rodgers’ men went into their clash at Fir Park having all but sealed the title courtesy of a 3-2 win over Old Firm rivals Rangers the week before, a result which opened up a nine-point gap lead over Graeme Murty’s side. And the Gers’ surprise home defeat to Kilmarnock on Saturday opened the door for the Bhoys to further stamp their authority on the title race, and while they didn’t get the win, they did at least extend their lead to ten points with a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Stephen Robinson’s side.

Subsequently, there have been some disappointed Bhoys fans in the Tavern this week given the result, but many remain in good spirits given their team’s lofty league position, with another title all but sealed.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Celtic supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking them with a move for Liverpool outcast Simon Mignolet, who has recently fallen down the pecking order at Anfield.

Yet a move north of the border, and thus a reunion with ex-Reds chief Rodgers at Parkhead, could be exactly what the £10.8 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) needs to reignite his career once again.

Ultimately, the Belgium international has been the Liverpool number one pretty much ever since he made the move to Anfield back in 2013, with Rodgers seemingly impressed by his time at Sunderland to shell out £9 million on his services.

And while he has retained the gloves for much of his stint in the North West, he hasn’t always been convincing, and many feel that he is one of the reasons why the Reds haven’t been able to sustain a Premier League title charge in recent times – ultimately, he’s not the world-class goalkeeper that David De Gea, Thibaut Courtois, and Ederson are.

And Loris Karius has taken over from Mignolet as Klopp’s number one since the turn of the year, and with the former producing some impressive displays for the Reds since then, it looks like the 30-year-old’s time at Anfield is at an end.

Nonetheless, the Belgian star still remains a hugely adept goalkeeper and one that can be depended on between the sticks. And moving to Celtic could be ideal for the 30-year-old.

Clearly, Rodgers thought a lot of him to both bring him to Anfield and then play him regularly, and playing for a manager who has that sort of confidence in you can only be a good thing, and ultimately the sort of manager one would want to play for.

And with Craig Gordon currently injured and 35 years of age, alongside the somewhat unconvincing Dorus de Vries, the Bhoys may well be on the lookout for their next shot-stopper – Mignolet could be that man.

Thus, the Liverpool outcast should seriously consider Celtic’s interest this summer, as moving to Parkhead could reignite his career.
