Title winner emerges as surprise target amid Newcastle overhaul

The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been on cloud nine for days now, ever since Rafa Benitez announced he was staying.

Having led the Toon Army to the Championship title at the first time of asking, the future is bright in black and white. Stil, reports from the Scottish Sun today have proved somewhat surprising.

They claim Celtic defender Efe Ambrose is a shock target for the Magpies. The Nigerian seemingly has no future in Glasgow, though did help Neil Lennon’s Hibernian to the Scottish Championship title.

While he impressed at the Leith San Siro, the 28-year-old has not proved a convincing target to the Geordies propping up the bar.

Though Ambrose played a big role in some of Celtic’s famous European nights, he’s picked up quite the reputation as an error-prone central defender in recent years.

Having seen their fair share of them don the famous Newcastle colours of the years, the Toon Army in the bar hope this is one deal Benitez stays away from.
