Celtic fans here in the Tavern are looking for their side to strengthen in order to secure the title, as their closest competitors seem to be making all the moves.
Brendan Rodgers has been a revelation since taking charge of the Hoops as his 69-game unbeaten record has set the standards high, but in a Scottish Premier League that Celtic have dominated in years gone by they’ll be hoping to carry this on for years to come. And, adding a goalkeeper to a side that have struggled with conceding goals in Europe this season will be sure to bolster their chances of ensuring solidity. As according to reports in the Daily Record, Celtic have had a bid rejected for Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson.
Motherwell rejected a £200,000 bid for keeper Trevor Carson from Celtic, as Rodgers goes on in search of a replacement for first-choice goalkeeper Craig Gordon who’s suffered an injury that’s set to sideline him for the next 12 weeks. And, with Dorus De Vries as their only fit back-up between the sticks, the purchase of a shot-stopper is becoming a necessity at Celtic Park. But, it looks as if the Hoops have blown their attempt to sign the Northern Irish keeper, as current club Motherwell thought the bid was well below their evaluation, along with them not having enough time to find a suitable replacement. But, for a keeper that has aspirations of earning his first cap for the Northern Ireland national side, a move to Celtic Park may just provide the exposure for the 29-year-old to warrant a call-up.
Indeed, Rodgers may now learn to rue the decision of sending youngster Conor Hazard out on loan to Falkirk, as they’re now looking worse for wear in the goalkeeping department. Although, having had their first bid rejected it’s believed that Rodgers will go in with a new and improved offer tomorrow, in the hope that they can come to some sort of agreement before time runs out.
There’s no doubt that Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of the goalkeeper after his performances against the Hoops this season, but the only thing potentially halting a move for the 29-year-old would be the clock ticking down. Nevertheless, if they manage to land their man then they’ll have themselves one of the Scottish Premier League’s most established keepers, and a valuable addition to their squad with news of Gordon’s injury.
