Celtic supporters have been making all the noise in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side all but secure the Scottish Premiership title after beating Old Firm rivals 3-2 at Ibrox on Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers’ men went into their meeting with the Gers just six points clear of Graeme Murty’s side in the table, and knowing that victory for the Light Blues would certainly turn up the heat on the Bhoys ahead of the run in. And while Rangers twice led through Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias, it was the defending champions who sealed all three points as goals from Tom Rogic, Moussa Dembele, and Odsonne Edouard clinched the victory for Rodgers’ side, thus moving them nine points clear at the summit, and still with a game in hand over their bitter rivals.
Thus, there have been many delighted and buoyant Celtic fans in the Tavern this week, several of whom are likely to be interested and perhaps encouraged by a recent report from The Daily Record, which includes comments from Patrick Roberts in an interview with Laurie Ross insurance regarding his future at Parkhead.
The 21-year-old made the move back to Celtic Park on loan at the start of the campaign after enjoying a fine spell at the club last season, in which he scored 11 goals and laid on 16 assists to help Rodgers’ side complete the domestic treble.
And while injuries have stunted his progress so far this term, it seems that the midfielder is very much open to remaining at Parkhead beyond the summer.
When asked whether he’d like to be there to help Celtic win ten leagues titles in a row, the winger said: ‘I would love to be here but I can’t really say much on that.
‘Something like that is massive and especially for Celtic to do it would be huge, and I’m sure they’ll do it and I’ll be part of of it if I’m here or not.’
And this admission is likely to delight our resident Bhoys fans, many of whom will hope that Roberts can get back to form following injury in the final few months of the season.
Landlord’s verdict: It has been a testing season so far for Patrick Roberts, who rejoined Celtic on loan from Manchester City back in August after bagging 11 goals and laying on 16 assists for Brendan Rodgers’ side last term.
Injuries have thwarted his chances this time round though, but it doesn’t appear to have put the 21-year-old off remaining at the club, as he has recently admitted that he would ‘love’ to stay at Parkhead to help the Bhoys go on and win ten league titles in a row.
And this admission is one Celtic fans are sure to love, but whether it’s feasible that they can keep the former England youth international beyond the summer remains to be seen.
