The ongoing feud between Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and the board is one of the stories so far this season.
The very fact that his side are playing in the Europa League tonight is testament to his disappointment in the club’s transfer approach. He would have liked to have strengthened his squad over the summer to compete in the Champions League, but wasn’t backed by the club, and the rest is history. They failed to get out of the Champions League qualifying, and so travel to Austria tonight to face FC Salzburg.
What will worry fans as well is how Rodgers describes the team before their match tonight.

Salzburg currently sit at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga, and while they are a decent team, Celtic should have the ambition of beating teams like this if they see themselves as a Champions League outfit.
The fact that Rodgers sees the two teams as so evenly matched, or even with the opponents as favourites, shows how he has not been given the backing to take the club to where he wants. This must be hugely frustrating for a manager that has grand plans for a team, which are stultified by the board.
Whether these are just platitudes before the game is to be seen, but these are not the European nights that Rodgers would have had in mind at the beginning of the season.
