According to The Evening Times, Celtic legend John Hartson has predicted that the club will have a bumper January, with the board becoming more liberal with their spending.
After tensions between Rodgers and the board grew over the summer, the former Wales striker has suspected that the manager will have been given assurances about the club’s transfer policy during the next window.
This may well be needed in order to keep the Northern Irishman at Celtic Park. Rodgers has wanted to build a squad capable of challenging in Europe’s top competition, but crashed out miserably this year in the Champions League qualifying rounds. He urged his board to splash the cash, but nothing happened.
Celtic have gone on to make a poor start to their Scottish Premiership season by their standards. The Bhoys sit in fifth place in the table, having only won four of their opening five games. With the departure of star man Moussa Dembélé over the summer, the club failed to recruit anyone other than Odsonne Édouard, who was already at the club on loan. This started to show cracks in the vice-like grip they have had on the division in recent years.
In order to get their season back on track, and hold back the resurgent Rangers under manager Steven Gerrard, Rodgers may need to bring in a few new faces in January. It would be imperative for the manager’s future that The Hoops retain their title, and some marquee signings will ensure that. Celtic fans everywhere will be hoping that Hartson’s predictions are correct.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
