Connor Goldson’s first Rangers goal has given fans reason to celebrate

Last night saw Connor Goldson score the only goal of the game as Steven Gerrard’s side took a 1-0 win at Ibrox over FC Ufa in the first leg of their Europa League playoff. The tie looks finely poised going into next week’s return leg in Russia but with Goldson giving the Gers the edge, anything is possible.

Goldson signed from Brighton and Hove Albion over the summer and if his goal can prove decisive in their playoff tie then he will have already paid off his own transfer fee in his first season before we’re even out of August. The commanding centre-back has struck up quite the partnership with fellow new boy Nikola Katic and he’ll be desperate to add more goals to his Gers career after opening his account last night.

Obviously, the fact that the Bluenoses were unable to add a second goal to extend their lead isn’t ideal but that won’t matter too much to the fans who are confident of getting through the tie and past FC Ufa next week. If they can edge past their Russian counterparts the financial implications will be huge. Stevie G will also go down as a hero if he can get them to the Europa League group stages and at the moment, it’s looking very possible.

The fans are loving seeing Goldson on the scoresheet and will be keen to see him add another one next week against FC Ufa in the return leg.
