Rangers have almost bought a whole new team this summer and are keen to add their 10th signing as quickly as possible.
Steven Gerrard has been keen to add a solid presence in defence and has been heavily linked with a move for Millwall centreback, Jake Cooper. Millwall have rejected two bids for the defender so far, and according to The Scottish Sun Rangers will come back with a third bid for the defender this week.
However according to the paper, if the third bid fails for Cooper, Gerrard has identified Blackpool’s Curtis Tilt as an alternative.
If Gerrard fails in his pursuit for Cooper, Tilt would be an ideal alternative.
The Blackpool defender spent most of the early stages of his career in non-League football before making the move to Blackpool last summer on a free transfer. Last season he managed to make 42 appearances for the club as they finished 12th in League One.
Rangers conceded 50 goals last season, the most of the top six in the Scottish Premiership. Gerrard has brought in Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic already this summer to sure up the defence but still needs to add more defensive numbers.
While Cooper will need a bid of three million or more, with only 12 months left on his deal, a move for Tilt could be a smart bit of business. If Gerrard can seal the deal for under a million, he may just have captured a defender that’s going to help the club win the league next season.
