Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern will have been rocked by some surprise transfer news as one of their bright proteges has decided to quit the club in the summer.
News broke that David Bates has decided to call it a day at Ibrox and has signed a deal with Bundesliga outfit Hamburg, although they could be playing in the Bundesliga 2 from next season. The 21-year-old had been considered to have a bright future with the Gers, however, reports are claiming that he has decided to leave Glasgow for a new adventure due to contract demands.
The Daily Record are stating that Rangers were refusing to give into Bates’ wage demands, which are thought to be around £7,500-a-week. The club are said to point-blank reject the requests after they believed it to be excessive. While seeing a talented youngster depart is never a good thing, our local Light Blues are fairly proud in their club’s stance.
Dave King and his board are understood to have pulled the plug following his demands
The defender has enjoyed a starting place in Graeme Murty’s line-up in the past couple of months as his contract runs down and the Light Blues would have been confident he would sign a new contract to remain.
The Rangers fans in the Tavern will have been stunned by the news that Bates has decided to leave in the summer as they felt he was one that had a bright future at the club. Many of the locals will be hoping the club learn from the situation and ensure they keep their stars in the future, although some punters will be happy the Gers did not bow down to player pressure.
