Rangers will have enjoyed the start to life under Steven Gerrard so far at Ibrox and will be hoping he can be the man to bring the glory days back to the club.
The former Liverpool star has already guided his side to the next round of the Europa League, although he has admitted that the performances have not been as he had expected.
That could well be done to the number of additions the manager has made since he arrived in Glasgow, with Gerrard conducting a fresh overhaul of the squad following last season’s disappointing campaign.
The former manager was previously in charge of overseeing the talented youth prospects before he was installed as caretaker boss following Pedro Caixinha’s departure.
Murty would not have covered himself in glory with many at the Light Blues towards the final stages of the season, especially with the public fallout.
The then-caretaker boss had a fallen out with a number of his players following their heavy defeat to Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Cup, which has seen Kenny Miller leave the club, whilst Lee Wallace is still feeling the consequences of it.
However, Murty proved to be vital during his time as the head of the developmental side and it will benefit Rangers having him back at his former position, as they look to bring a number of talented individuals through the youth ranks.
