Further encouragement for Aston Villa fans following weekend win

Aston Villa supporters in the Transfer Tavern found their voices once again over the weekend after seeing their side secure only their second Championship win of the season.

Steve Bruce’s men have made a stuttering start to the new campaign and the pressure is increasing on the former Birmingham City and Hull City boss, although their 3-0 success at Barnsley on Saturday will go some way to appeasing our resident Villa fans.

A brace from Albert Adomah and a Keinan Davis strike secured the three points for the Midlands giants, and there may be more positive news to come for the Villans if a recent report from The Daily Mirror (via The Daily Record) is anything to go by.

And that’s because they report that Bruce’s men are eyeing up a move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, a former Colombia youth international who’s making great strides north of the border.

The 21-year-old only moved to Ibrox during the summer but has certainly hit the ground running with eight goals in nine games for Pedro Caixinha’s side, including six in his six Scottish Premiership appearances.

And his excellent goal-scoring exploits, which have powered the Gers up to third in the division, have reportedly attracted the interest of Bruce’s Villa, as well as several other Championship sides including Derby County and Reading.

And with the Villans sizing up a promotion bid this term, more firepower may be needed in the second half of the campaign, which could see the Midlands giants firm up their interest in Morelos come the New Year.

Landlord’s verdict: Alfredo Morelos has made a stunning start to life in Scotland, having moved to Rangers as a relative unknown just a few months ago.

Eight goals in nine games for Pedro Caixinha’s side has raised his stock ten-fold, and the Scottish giants may now face a battle to keep him with several Championship clubs, including Aston Villa, reportedly keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.

Steve Bruce’s men were heavily reliant on Jonathan Kodjia’s goals last season and quite simply can’t be this time round if they want to challenge for promotion, so bringing someone as talented as Morelos to Villa Park in January could well make the difference in their quest for a return to the Premier League.
