Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern will be excited with what Steven Gerrard has already managed to do since being appointed as the manager of the Ibrox outfit.
The former Liverpool star has been extremely active in the transfer market, having made seven signings as he steps up his efforts to improve the squad and turn them into a competitive force once again.
One of those signings was Jon Flanagan, a player he knows well from their time together at Anfield, which many of the locals in the bar will have felt could have spelt the end for James Tavernier, a player who has been linked with a move away from Scotland recently.
“If you look at our two attacking full-backs they are very good at what they do, but in certain games we’ll need to go a different way,” he told the Scottish Sun.
“We can’t just attack and go gung-ho against every single team. Sometimes we’ll need to stiffen it up and go a bit safer, and Jon gives us that option.
“He’s well aware of why I’ve brought him in. Some of the challenges I’ll be giving to him will be different. He hasn’t come in to fight for Tavernier’s place or Declan John’s.”
The comments made by Gerrard will appear to suggest that Tavernier still has a future at Ibrox, despite rumours circling that he could be offloaded should they receive an offer for him. The locals in the Tavern will be pleased that the right-back looks to be staying after he has become a mainstay for the Light Blues and even captained the side at points last season.
