Gerrard plotting ambitious move for South American amid Rangers rebuild

Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern will be excited with what the summer brings as Steven Gerrard is already making big moves for the club before he officially takes the hot-seat.

The former Liverpool star was revealed to be heading to Ibrox last month, however, he has gone at full pace to make sure he has a number of players already added to his squad when he joins up with them.

Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield have both already been confirmed, whilst a host of others have also been rumoured with a move to the Light Blues, but according to a report in the Scottish Sun, one name would be a huge surprise.

Gerrard is believed to be eyeing up a reunion with former Liverpool team-mate Lucas Leiva, who left the Anfield outfit to join SS Lazio. The 31-year-old has been impressing for his new club in the Serie A and it is not thought the club would want to lose him just one year on.

Landlord’s Verdict

The signing of Leiva would show Gerrard’s intent on making Rangers a dominant force in the Scottish Premiership, as he tries to take on former boss Brendan Rodgers and Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The midfielder is believed to be keen on a reunion with his former midfield partner, however, he could cost Gers more than the £5million it cost Lazio to sign him last summer, meaning the Light Blues may have to consider moving a number of players on.

Should that be required, the locals in the bar will be telling Gerrard to make a move happening at any cost.
