While the Celtic fans here in the Transfer Tavern were disappointed by the end to their Champions League adventure, the performance against Bayern Munich did impress the punters propping up our bar.
Now, the Bhoys in our bar are fairly hopeful of a strong showing in the Europa League after Christmas under Brendan Rodgers and that optimism has only been built upon following some transfer-related claims today.
According to the Scottish Sun, Rodgers is keen on strengthening his squad during the New Year sales, with a top-class central defender thought to be a priority at Parkhead. That particular area of the team represents the one worry for our resident Hoops, with injuries to the likes of Jozo Simunovic, Dedryck Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko this season showing their lack of options in that area.
As you can imagine, with the Celtic fans here praying for a strong showing in the Europa League, it’s very good news for our punters clad in green and white here.
If Celtic can bring in a fairly big name central defender halfway through the season, it’d be a big message in regard to their Europa League intentions. It’d be a huge boost for everyone involved at the club and the money certainly is there.
