Rangers fans here in the Tavern are high in spirits after their midweek cup victory, as they look to follow this up with a win in their clash against Hibernian.
Graeme Murty will have been full of confidence heading into the Gers’ Scottish Premier League encounter, after a 3-0 victory over Fraserburgh in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup. However, with outside contenders for second place Hibernian up next, they’re hoping to bring their cup momentum back into domestic proceedings. And, they received a boost even ahead of the weekend’s fixture, as according to reports in the Scottish Sun, Hibs duo Darren McGregor and Martin Boyle are doubts for the clash at Ibrox.
Indeed, McGregor left the field of play during Hibs’ victory at Easter Road on Wednesday, while Boyle left the stadium after the match wearing a protective boot. And, in a game that was filled full of reckless challenges, Hibs failed to receive the protection from referee Alan Muir against an aggressive Motherwell side, which can only be seen as a positive thing for Rangers fans as the fiery Neil Lennon and his injury-stricken side head to Glasgow.
A win for Rangers would see them make huge strides towards cementing a second place finish come the end of the season, with the Bluenoses going ahead of Aberdeen in second on goal difference with a win.
Rangers have received a huge boost following the news of two of Hibernian’s key players possibly missing the bout, meaning that the Gers have no excuses in doing the business over Hibs for the second time this season. Although, with Neil Lennon’s side coming to Ibrox with fire in their belly from a win midweek and annoyance at the referee, a backlash can be expected after losing some key players.
