One man believes leaving Rangers temporarily this summer was the right decision for him as he looks to impress Steven Gerrard.
Greg Docherty is convinced that the loan move to Shrewsbury Town will do wonders for his career and is determined to make a success of it.
The 21-year-old, who made his debut for the League One outfit during their 2-1 defeat to Charlton Athletic, revealed that Gerrard sent him on loan to get consistent game time and will be hoping the experience he can learn from the lower league football will help aid his development.
“Coming down here, I want to play games, I want to experience this league,” he is quoted as saying in the Daily Record’s live transfer blog.
“I know it’s a tough, relentless league with a lot of games but that’s what I want.
“I’m at a stage where I need to play. That’s what me and my manager at Rangers agreed on.
“I need to play games consistently to take me to that next step and coming down here can open a lot of doors for me.”
The loan move should prove to be beneficial for Docherty, providing he gets the regular minutes he and Rangers are after.
The midfielder, who only joined the Light Blues last winter, will be looking to force his way into the first-team next season.
However, he will need to turn his attention to the Shrews and should he impress whilst at the League One outfit, then it could only be a matter of time before getting his chance at Ibrox.
