It’s been a busy time for all the Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern. Steven Gerrard has been quick to bring some new players this summer and it looks set to continue.
Rangers are poised to tie up a loan deal for 21-year-old Nigerian forward, Umar Sadiq. The Roma striker will be the eighth signing so far in Gerrard’s Rangers revolution as he looks to topple Celtic. The Liverpool legend though already has his ninth loan signing lined up as he targets Anger midfielder, Lassana Coulibaly.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Rangers are closing in on a deal for the Mali international. The Ibrox club have apparently reached a one-year loan deal for the Anger player who will add some quality depth in midfield.
The 22-year-old is predominantly a holding midfielder but also likes to join the attack. Moreover, a six foot tall, Coulibaly is a solid physical presence and at the time of his move from Bastia to Angers, he had been linked with a move to PSG to replace Blaise Matuidi.
Steven Gerrard does have Ryan Jack, Graham Dorrans, Jordan Rossiter and Scott Arfield in the same midfield position but Coulibaly offers a strong physical presence in the middle of the park.
Moreover, a loan deal would be vital for Coulibaly’s development, especially as the French side signed Saint-Etienne’s Vincent Pajot.
It’s been seven years since the Gers last won a Scottish Premiership trophy and Gerrard has been working quickly to add quality, to his squad. With Coulibaly’s introduction into the midfield, the Gers might just have a powerhouse in the midfield that could help push them back towards a title.
