Rangers fans here in the Tavern are hoping to see a number of changes made over the course of the summer transfer window, as they’ve struggled to challenge Celtic in the current campaign.
Interestingly, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been named as the Rangers boss after Graeme Murty was sacked earlier on this week, with many of our local residents now feeling extremely excited. But, this could turn out to be a huge mistake as the 37-year-old has only previously managed at youth level, so supporters will be intrigued to see whether the club’s decision works out.
Surprisingly, it’s understood that Gerrard will look to draft in former Liverpool team-mate Martin Skrtel as a player-coach, which can only be a positive thing if the Slovakian’s playing career is anything to go by. But, his recruitment won’t stop there as he will need to conduct a major overhaul in the summer transfer window, as a number of the club’s current players have looked less than convincing this season.
With that in mind, here’s who our local punters think should follow Skrtel to Ibrox…
Steven Gerrard knows Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn very well from his time in charge of the under-19s, which could be crucial when it comes to possibly luring him to Ibrox in the summer transfer window.
However, the Bluenoses would only be able to bring him to Ibrox on loan as he will play a huge part in the Reds’ future, but even this would be a bonus for Rangers having witnessed his quality on the international stage.
So, with a number of assists and goals to his name at youth level and having made a solitary appearance in the first-team this season, it’s clear to see that the youngster would benefit from regular minutes at an ambitious club like Rangers.
