Improved bid launched as Murty eyes ‘top’ Rangers target – report

Rangers supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating their side’s return to action on Wednesday night against second place Aberdeen, with the Gers seeking to start 2018 with victory over their closest rivals in the Scottish Premiership table.

Graeme Murty’s men concluded a turbulent 2017 with a spirited 0-0 draw away at Old Firm rivals Celtic on December 30, a result which left them third in the division and 11 points adrift of the Bhoys at the turn of the year. And with several new faces through the door in the last few weeks, namely Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings, there is renewed optimism among our resident Rangers fans that 2018 can be a much better year for their side than 2017 was.

And a recent report from The Daily Record could well add to that positivity, as they suggest that the Gers have made an improved bid for ‘top’ target Greg Docherty, having had one believed to be around £350,000 turned down by Hamilton last week.

The 21-year-old came up through the ranks at the Scottish Premiership club and has since gone on to make 109 first team appearances for the side, in which time he has bagged eight goals and laid on 13 assists.

And with three goals and six assists in just 21 league games this term, the midfielder has reportedly attracted the interest of Murty’s Rangers, who has reportedly launched an improved bid, believed to be in excess of £500,000, to try and lure the Scotland Under-21 international to Ibrox.

And with Docherty reportedly a ‘top’ target for the Scottish giants this month, things could be about to get even better for our resident Gers fans were they to indeed land the 21-year-old in the coming days.

Landlord’s verdict: Greg Docherty has enjoyed a marvellous season at Hamilton, with his three goals and six assists for the club failing to go unnoticed.

Graeme Murty’s Rangers have reportedly identified the 21-year-old midfielder as a ‘top’ target for this month’s transfer window, and made an unsuccessful bid for the Scotland Under-21 international last week.

However, the Gers have reportedly come back with an improved offer as they seek to lure Docherty to Ibrox, in what would be their sixth signing of the summer, and one that is likely to delight our resident Rangers fans.
