Rangers could face a potential battle to keep one of their mainstays this winter as one persistent link does not appear to be going away anytime soon.
The Championship club made two bids in the summer to add the right-back to their squad, however, they were both rejected as Steven Gerrard saw the player vital to his plans.
So vital, in fact, that Tavernier was made his club captain and committed his future to Ibrox by signing a new long-term deal with the Light Blues.
However, that does not appear to have put off the Baggies and Darren Moore as he sent a scout to watch him in action during Rangers’ 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-final at the weekend.
Gerrard will not want to see his skipper leave the club anytime soon, although he could be tempted to sell him if they were offered a deal too good to turn down.
Rangers will be feeling confident that they can see out the whole of January and keep Tavernier at the club beyond the transfer window.
The Ibrox outfit hold all the cards when it comes to a possible transfer, as their skipper has just signed a new deal and can demand whatever they want for him.
The Light Blues are not necessarily in a position of needing to sell their best players, although if Gerrard wants to improve his squad, he may look at sanctioning a possible deal in order to have the finances available for other moves.
