Rangers have had a solid season this year as under Steven Gerrard the club has enjoyed an improvement in form and crucially look like they could possibly win the title this season and stop their arch rivals from winning their 10th consecutive title.
Impressively for Rangers, Gerrard has guided them through a tough European Qualifying campaign and they have also started the Europa League group stage incredibly well as they’ve held Villareal to a draw, defeated Rapid Vienna 3-1 but unfortunately were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Spartak Moscow. Rangers dominated the game but couldn’t break down the Russian side.
Recently, however, The Gers were beaten by Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, thanks to a Lewis Ferguson goal.
Following the loss, one of our writers delved into Twitter to find that many Rangers fans were slating club captain, James Tavernier.
Tavernier has been one Rangers’ best players this season and has scored eight goals to go with eight assists which from a right-back, is outstanding. However, in the League Cup semi-final and against Spartak Moscow, Tavernier’s delivery was absolutely awful.
Moreover, the defender has at times been slightly poor defensively as his game is predicated on going forward. Overall, however, he’s been a star man this season. He will be a key man tonight as Rangers take on Kilmarnock in what is a crucial league game. Rangers need to stay in the hunt for the title and must take the three points tonight or risk being left behind in the race for the title.
While at times, Tavernier may not have been at his best this season, he still remains a key player and one that is going to be key crucial for Rangers’ title hunt.
