Things may not have gone exactly to plan for Rangers this season, however, there have been some significant improvements under Steven Gerrard. The Light Blues have looked more of a threat this year than they have previously, whilst they put in a rather brilliant showing within European competition as well.
However, as silverware continues to elude them, it would not be a surprise to see the manager return to player recruitment in the summer and make the changes he feels still need to be made. The arrival of new faces will likely mean the departure of some older faces and it appears one man could be calling time on life at Ibrox in the very near future.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Football Insider, Rangers are set to tell Jason Holt that he no longer has a future at Ibrox and can leave the club permanently in the summer transfer window and will not be offering him an extension to his present deal that expires next year.
The midfielder has been on loan at Fleetwood Town for the entirety of the current campaign, however, he has had to return to his parent side because of a season-ending injury to his knee.
And, it appears he could make a return to the League One outfit as Joey Barton revealed he would love to keep the 26-year-old at the club permanently.
Holt may have been a popular figure with everyone at Rangers before the arrival of Gerrard, however, the summer may be the best time for him to move on from the Ibrox outfit for good.
Despite showing that he can still be a hugely influential player for Fleetwood this season, it would be unlikely that he would be challenging for a place in the first-team of the Scottish Premiership side.
Gerrard added the likes of Scott Arfield, Steven Davis and Glen Kamara, whilst Ryan Jack and Ross McCrorie are also fighting it out for places in the middle of the park as well.
It would not be a surprise if the manager decided to head into the transfer market for a new midfielder in the summer either, as Arfield has been attracting plenty of attention whilst Lassana Coulibaly will likely return to Angers following his loan spell with the Light Blues after a disappointing second half of the season.
However, it does not appear to be all doom and gloom for Holt as he may be able to make a move to Fleetwood permanently, especially considering that Rangers are more than prepared to let him leave this summer and will not be offering him a new deal.
