Jermain Defoe set to join Rangers on loan

Steven Gerrard was thought to be keen on adding a striker to his ranks at Rangers and it appears he may have just found one to bolster their chances of challenging for the Scottish Premiership title.

According to a report by Sky Sports, the Light Blues are thought to have agreed to a deal with AFC Bournemouth about taking Jermain Defoe on a temporary basis.

It is understood the England international will join the Ibrox outfit on an 18-month loan, with the Premier League outfit having the option to recall him at two different points.

The Cherries could look to recall the 36-year-old either in the summer or in the January transfer window in 2020.

Defoe has struggled to get game-time this season, having made just four Premier League appearances.

The Verdict:

Defoe is an excellent addition for Rangers and could play a huge role in the Light Blues’ efforts to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title this season.

The 57-time England international has been prolific in his career and has proved to be very successful wherever he plays.

With Defoe potentially alongside Alfredo Morelos or Kyle Lafferty, it could be a really exciting time for Gerrard and the Light Blues at Ibrox.
