Celtic fans here in the Tavern are anxious ahead of their Old Firm clash at the weekend, knowing that defeat would hand Rangers a lifeline in their pursuit of the Scottish Premier League title.
The Hoops have gone on a run of two games without conceding a goal after the disastrous second-leg tie against Zenit St Petersburg in the Europa League, as the league title now becomes the main aim for Brendan Rodgers. Although, many of our locals have been rather confused at the latest developments involving Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish and bitter rivals Rangers, as according to reports in the Sunday Post, Dalglish has praised the Rangers board over managing to keep Alfredo Morelos.
”The Rangers hierarchy also decided not to sell Alfredo Morelos, and it’s another positive to have that backing when the manager clearly wanted to keep the player”, he wrote.
The Colombian, of course, was linked with a big money move over to China, though the Light Blues stood firm and kept their man.
Indeed, Celtic was the home of Dalglish’s first chapter in his footballing career, after lifting four Scottish first divisions, four Scottish Cups and one Scottish League cup.
But, prior to the Old Firm clash at the weekend, Dalglish has been high in praise for the efforts of Graeme Murty and the Gers’ board so far this season. Indeed, Alfredo Morelos is arguably one of the rising stars in world football at the age of 21, and Rangers’ ability to hold onto him despite transfer interest in weeks gone by has impressed the former Celtic great.
Although, Dalglish does believe that the Hoops are still a distance ahead of their bitter rivals despite all the praise, as all eyes are now fixated on Sunday’s game between Scotland’s two most successful sides in the Old Firm derby.
Many of our local residents have taken a disliking to the praise that Kenny Dalglish has paid their bitter rivals ahead of the Old Firm derby, as bragging rights and the Scottish Premier League title are at stake. Although, his opinion on the difference in quality between the two sides will please supporters, as the Hoops are still a distance ahead in the eyes of the former Celtic man.
