Leeds United transfer news: Club face battle to sign 43-goal striker

The resident Leeds United fans situated by the jukebox here in the Transfer Tavern are in an incredibly jolly mood, with the Whites well in the mix for promotion this season.

It has been one hell of a campaign for Garry Monk and his Leeds United team, and the punters here in the Tavern are desperate to see the Yorkshire club back where they belong, in the Premier League.

News has filtered into the Tavern from the Daily Mail – which claims that Leeds United are among an array of clubs looking into securing the services of Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn.

The 27-year-old has been on fire whilst at the Scottish giants, having accumulated 47 goals in his time at the club, and that has seemingly alerted the likes of Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Huddersfield Town.

A number of Leeds fans by the bar are pretty bemused at the club’s reported interest in Waghorn, and do not think the club should be targeting a player of this calibre, especially when Leeds have Chris Wood.

As our landlord quips, Wood is the Championship’s top scorer and is one of the most formidable strikers outside of the top-flight, so do Leeds really need Waghorn in their attack? Surely he’d just be utilised as an impact sub?

Meanwhile, a handful of Forest fans here in the Tavern think Waghorn and Assombalonga could forge a pretty fruitful partnership…
