Rangers supporters have been pretty upbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few weeks after seeing their side bring in four new faces to the club ahead of the second half of the Scottish Premiership season, a half the Gers will hope is better than the first.
Graeme Murty’s men entered 2018 third in the table but a hefty 11 points adrift of leaders Celtic, having won 12 of their opening 22 matches, losing six. However, there appears to be significantly more optimism among our resident Gers fans in recent times given the shrewd business their side have done so far this month, with Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy, Jason Cummings, and Russell Martin all moving to Ibrox on loan for the remainder of the season.
Thus, there have been many satisfied Rangers supporters in the Tavern in the last few weeks, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Record, which suggests that talks between Mark Allen and Josh Windass over a new deal at the club are ‘likely’ to be had, but not until after the transfer window.
The 24-year-old attacker has been in wonderful form for the Gers this term with six goals and five assists in 20 league appearances, thus proving to be a rare shining light in an otherwise unspectacular Rangers campaign.
As such, interest has been mounting in the Englishman in the last few months, with Preston North End trying their hand at a £500,000 bid a few weeks back to no avail, thus throwing into doubt whether Windass will indeed be at the club come January 31.
However, recent reports suggest that discussions regarding a new contract will ‘likely’ take place after the close of the January window, which could suggest that the Gers have no interest in letting the 24-year-old leave this month.
But with Leeds United reportedly ready to up the ante in pursuit of Windass, there could be some nervy weeks ahead for our resident Rangers fans.
Landlord’s verdict: Josh Windass has been in scintillating form for Rangers so far this season, so it’s perhaps unsurprising that there is reported interest in his services.
And the Gers are reportedly planning to combat that interest by negotiating a new contract with the 24-year-old, although reports suggest that they are ‘likely’ to take place after the close of the transfer window.
And while this may well suggest that they have no intentions of selling the attacker, this news may well concern our resident Rangers fans, as an offer south of the border could be enough to tempt Windass into a move away.
Thus, there could be some anxious weeks ahead for those hardy Rangers supporters lining up at the bar.
