McGregor isn’t a No.1 and Gerrard must add £3.15m-rated outcast to Rangers rebuild

Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are ecstatic with the club’s early business in the transfer window as they look to knock Celtic off their perch next season.

Steven Gerrard has wasted no time in revamping his squad with three new arrivals already confirmed at Ibrox. Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor completed free transfers from Burnley and Hull City respectively. Jamie Murphy’s loan move from Brighton was also made permanent.

Gerrard’s work is not finished yet with the Gers looking to add another striker to their squad, Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke has been linked, as well as a new number one. McGregor is surely expected to take up a role as number two if they land a top ‘keeper in the summer. The ex-England captain would be wise to look to the Premier League in his search.

One option could be Everton goalkeeper – Joel Robles. The Spaniard is out of contract and would be available on a free transfer. Since moving from Atletico Madrid, he has found game time hard to come by at Goodison Park – failing to make a single Premier League appearance last season. He is valued at £3.15m by Transfermarkt.

The 27-year-old has his best years ahead of him and would free up funds to strengthen other areas of the squad. Robles has never been given a chance to stake his claim on the number one jersey at Everton, and he remains a solid goalkeeping option for the Gers. He could prove to be an astute piece of business.
