‘Needs kept at the club’ – Rangers on Twitter hope Gerrard has room for popular figure next year

The Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern have been commenting on how there’s a future for their interim gaffer, Jimmy Nicholl with the Gers despite the fact that Steven Gerrard is taking over as manager in the summer. Rangers travelled to Easter Road to face Hibernian in the final game of the season which turned out to be a classic as the sides couldn’t be separated at 5-5.

Jimmy Nicholl was put in interim charge of the Rangers senior squad when Graeme Murty was sacked on the 1st May, to the delight of all of our resident Bluenoses. The 61-year-old stand-in gaffer has taken charge of three games in his short cameo as the boss at Ibrox, winning one and drawing the other two, seeing his side score seven goals in those three games, leading fans to call for the manager to stay on in some capacity next season under Steven Gerrard.

Yesterday, though, was an absolute thriller in every sense. Rangers found themselves 3-0 down after 22 minutes away at Hibs, although by half-time they’d turned it around remarkably to make it 3-3. From there Rangers continues to impress, taking a 5-3 away lead in the 68th minute. It just wasn’ to be for the Gers as Hibs pulled one back straight away and then when Jason Holt was sent off for Nicholl’s side with five minutes to play it gave Hibs the initiative as they scored a 93rd-minute equaliser, sparking wild celebrations in Edinburgh.
