Celtic supporters in the Transfer Tavern have used the first week or so of the New Year looking back and discussing their side’s efforts in 2017, a year in which the Bhoys completely dominated football north of the border.
Brendan Rodgers’ men brushed aside everyone in the Scottish Premiership last term to win the league by a staggering 30 points of second place Aberdeen, breaking the record points total along the way in a campaign in which they dropped just eight points, and lost none of their 38 games. The Scottish giants also added the Scottish Cup with victory over Aberdeen in the final at Hampden Park back in May, and they defended their Scottish League Cup crown back in November to continue holding all three major trophies with a 2-0 success over Motherwell.
Subsequently, it was clearly an excellent year for our resident Celtic fans, many of whom are hoping for even better from their side this term, although much of that success may come down to whether or not they can keep striker Moussa Dembele at the club this month.
And a recent report from The Scottish Sun could well fill those supporters with confidence, as manager Rodgers has confirmed that while ‘enquiries’ have been made, no bids have.
The French forward scored an impressive 32 goals to help the club to the domestic treble last season, and with eight goals already this time round, the 21-year-old looks set for a huge future in the game.
And many clubs have been linked with a move for the striker, most recently Brighton, yet manager Rodgers has stated that no bids have come in for Dembele, saying: ‘There have been enquiries around him, but not one bid.’
And, while there is still three weeks of the January window to go, these comments may well reassure and as such please our resident Celtic fans, many of whom are well aware how important it is to keep the 21-year-old beyond the January 21 deadline.
Landlord’s verdict: Moussa Dembele played a pivotal part in helping Celtic win all three domestic trophies last season, netting 32 goals in all competitions to further the Bhoys’ dominance north of the border.
Unsurprisingly, the 21-year-old has since been linked with a move away from Celtic Park, most recently to Premier League side Brighton, yet manager Brendan Rodgers appears to have given our resident Celtic fans some reassurance by confirming that no bids have been made for the striker.
Yes, there is still three weeks of the window left, but this is surely a good sign for Bhoys supporters, who will be hoping that the final weeks of the market come and go with Dembele remaining a Celtic player.
