Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly awaiting the club’s first signing of the summer – our punters are desperate for success on the European stage.
Brendan Rodgers masterminded another terrific season at Celtic Park as the Hoops scooped their seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title. They also defended their Scottish Cup with a victory over Motherwell to secure the domestic double. To be successful in Europe next year, summer reinforcements are needed.
With Patrick Roberts set to return to parent club Manchester City, another winger could be high on Rodgers’ priority list. A marquee signing in attack would help the Hoops secure another league title and perform better in the Champions League. According to reports, Everton are set to offload 12 players this summer, including Yannick Bolasie, who would be an excellent signing for Celtic.
Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, Bolasie has failed to impress at Goodison Park since joining from Crystal Palace for £25m back in 2016 and is now to set to leave. The 29-year-old struggled for fitness this season, making just 16 Premier League appearances scoring one goal. A change of scenery could be just what he needs to rediscover his best form.
The DR Congo international can play on either flank or through the middle making him a versatile option for Rodgers. Bolasie gained a reputation as one of the best dribblers in the Premier League during his time with Palace, and he would be a nightmare for Scottish defences. If Rodgers can improve his consistency, it could prove to be a masterstroke signing.
Celtic need improvements and blowing their budget on Bolasie might be crazy enough to work.
