Plenty of Rangers fans were furious with Jon Flanagan’s performance against Kilmarnock

Rangers welcomed Kilmarnock to Ibrox tonight on the back of a confidence sapping defeat against Aberdeen in the semi-final of the Betfred Cup, and they seemed unsure of themselves once again as they slumped to a 1-1 draw.

Pressure is beginning to mount on Steven Gerrard at Rangers following a questionable run of results which have served as a damning reminder of how far they still have to improve to catch Celtic.

Gerrard’s summer spending spree was designed to narrow the gulf in class, but there are certainly questions to be asked about the quality of the players he has brought in.

Indeed, Jon Flanagan seemed destined to establish himself as a solid Premier League player when he broke through the ranks at Liverpool, but his erratic form with the Gers suggests that he has plenty of frailties still to iron out.

His glaring weaknesses became apparent once again on Wednesday evening in a shambolic first-half for the 25-year-old full-back, and he was subsequently withdrawn at half-time.

But Gerrard was certainly not alone in noticing how poor Flanagan was on the evening, as the Rangers supporters turned out in their numbers to slate him on Twitter.

It’s certainly too early in Flanagan’s career to think about writing him off as a flop, but he will need to dramatically improve in the coming months to convince the Rangers supporters that he deserves a place in the starting eleven.

Here’s what a selection of Rangers fans had to say about Flanagan’s performance tonight…
