Celtic fans have been eagerly anticipating some transfer news in the Transfer Tavern.
Brendan Rodgers has brought in Odsonne Edouard – for a record fee – and former Dundee United goalkeeper, Scott Bain on a free transfer. Aside from those two signings, the Celtic boss has remained relatively quiet in the transfer market so far this summer.
In terms of outgoings, reports have emerged that Fulham are chasing Dedryck Boyata according to The Sun.
The 27-year-old defender has 12 months left on his contract and the London club are interested in bringing him back to the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship.
While the defender has had a good World Cup, the former Manchester City man has never completely won over the fans. The Belgium international only has a year left on his current deal and it is still unsure whether he will sign a new deal with the club.
At 27, the defender is coming into the prime of his career but if there is interest from a Premier League club, a big offer might be a wise deal to take. If Celtic can get a good price for the defender, it could be well spent on investing into the squad. Indeed, Boyata himself recently spoke of his contract but wasn’t exactly clear on his future.
“Right now, I am concentrating on the World Cup. I am not thinking about my future.”
“I still have a year on my contract and we will see after the summer if I continue with Celtic again.”
While it may hurt to say goodbye now, perhaps a Boyata sale could help the Hoops build for what is hopefully a better go of things in Europe next season.
