Potential consequences of Morelos leaving Rangers

Rangers fans have seen a number of prolific forwards work their magic at Ibrox over the years, but Alfredo Morelos may just be one of the club’s best ever strikers as he just can’t stop scoring.

Indeed, the South American has been sublime in the current campaign, having produced a whopping 28 goals and 11 assists in 41 appearances in all competitions for the Light Blues.

But, supporters recently received some news that will be sure to make them worry, as according to Sky Sports, Leicester City and several Bundesliga clubs, led by Borussia Dortmund, are interested in Alfredo Morelos.

Morelos’ potential departure would come as a huge blow for everyone involved with Rangers Football Club, so here are the potential consequences of waving goodbye to the 22-year-old…

STEVEN GERRARD SPLASHES CASH ON STRIKER

Alfredo Morelos is reportedly (as per Daily Record) valued at £20 million, so the Light Blues could find themselves with a heap of funds to spend on bringing in a replacement.

It’s safe to say that Steven Gerrard will need to splash the cash if he is to find a replacement that’s anywhere near as good as Morelos, as he has so much potential and his contributions have been priceless at Ibrox.

PRESSURE ON JERMAIN DEFOE

Jermain Defoe joined from Rangers back in the January transfer window on an 18-month loan deal from Premier League side Bournemouth, and it’s safe to say that he’s impressed during his short time in Scotland as he’s managed to produce a respectable five goals and four assists in nine appearances in all competitions.

But, he could find himself under immense pressure if Morelos was to leave as the South American would take an awful lot of goals with him, which would leave Defoe with a huge void to fill as the club’s main striker.

Many fans will be confident in Defoe’s goalscoring ability as he’s scored goals for fun over the years and has already found the back of the net on a number of occasions this season, but filling Morelos’ boots would still be a challenge.

Rangers fans, how do you think you would cope without Morelos? Is Jermain Defoe good enough to become Gerrard’s main striker?
